We offer Digital Mammography for screening of asymptomatic patients as well as diagnostic mammography of symptomatic patients. This system was introduced in the US for the first time in 2011 and we are proud to be one of the first facilities in the Chicago area to offer this state-of-the-art equipment. Screening Mammograms can detect changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them on examination. Current guidelines from the American Cancer Society (ACS) recommend screening mammograms every year for women beginning at age 40. Research has shown that annual mammograms lead to early detection of breast cancers when they are more easily curable and breast-conservation therapies are available.
ALL PATIENTS SHOULD BRING ANY AVAILABLE PRIOR OUTSIDE IMAGES WITH THEM AT THE TIME OF THEIR APPOINTMENT. NIC WILL RETURN THESE IMAGES FOR YOU. FOR MAXIMAL QUALITY PLEASE ASK FOR ORIGINAL FILMS (not copies).
For women with breast problems including focal pain, lump or nipple discharge, NIC offers diagnostic mammograms. The diagnostic mammogram is often followed by breast ultrasound performed the same day.
